Click HereA futures contract is a standardized legal agreement to buy or sell a particular commodity or financial instrument at a predetermined price at a specified time in the future. Futures contracts are traded on exchanges and can be used for hedging or speculation.
The initial margin is the minimum amount of funds required to open a futures position. It acts as a good faith deposit to ensure you can cover potential losses. The initial margin is typically a percentage of the contract's total value.
A futures contract includes: the underlying asset, contract size (multiplier), delivery date (expiration), tick size (minimum price movement), settlement method (cash or physical), and trading hours. All these specifications are standardized by the exchange.
The maintenance margin is the minimum amount of equity that must be maintained in your account to keep a futures position open. If your account falls below the maintenance margin due to losses, you'll receive a margin call requiring you to deposit additional funds.
